Irish furniture designer Joseph Walsh is one of the most sought because of typical free flowing style and sinuous curvilinear shapes on his creation makes his work highly desired by collectors and museums. This chair is a very interesting and unique design, when you sit in it you feel free and very comfortable. Perfect for sitting down with some friends to play some guitar but also fits right in around a board room table. We’ve been able to sculpt this design into our own by deciding to attach the front leg to the seat using a true Maloof joint, this adds strength and beautiful fair transitions.
Velichko Velikov has designed Curly Chair for Italian manufacturer Lago. This chair was presented at Milan Design Week and Salone Mobile Milan 2011. Curly is a chair that gets advantage of the resistance of fabric for its seat. The frame is reduced, there is no back rest or arm and the weight of the body is supported by its extremely resistant fabric. The canvas version is use for outdoor. [Via]
Junya Ishigami guest of honour of the Design Biennale INTERIEUR 2010, is awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale for Architecture. One of the results of his work made for Living Divani is Family Chair, a collection of 5 steel chairs with a remarkable magnified optical effect, for light objects, practical in their harmony.
Junya Ishigami tell that “Chairs that live in harmony, like a family. Whilst they are all similar, each chair has a slightly different shape, and its own personality. There is a wide chair, a tall chair, a short chair, a normal chair and a stool. It’s fun to choose which chair to sit on, depending on the day’s mood. Like a family sitting around a table, so the chairs are arranged around the table.”
The structure of the chairs is in 12 mm tubular steel, curved using a numeric control machine, and 15 mm tubular steel legs welded together using internal reinforcement. The seat mesh is in 3 mm steel wire with a 40×40 mm diagonal weave, individually rolled for each seat. Finished with epoxy paint in the colors given in the catalogue, or electro-coated in the outdoor version. [Via]
Designed by Michael L. Wendel, Splash Lounge is very unique, inspired by the splash a water drop creates when it hits a solid surface. Splash Lounge is the comfortable furniture to lounge in outdoors next to your pool.
The Splash Lounge is made from Sculpey clay at 1/8th inch scale, the model was then cut up into 1/4 inch slices, scanned, blown up to full size plotted and served as templates for the full scale model. The form itself is made of pink insulation foam coated in Elmer’s Glue. A fiberglass skin, covered in Bondo and white high-gloss epoxy give the Splash it’s milky glow. [Via]
ADELTA is the only authorized manufacturer of selected designs by Eero Aarnio. One of his creative works is a Ball Chair. The Ball Chair is made by applying simple geometric forms – the ball. Cutting the parts and improving it at one point Eero Aarnio comes to amazing results – a chair-shaped totally unconventional.
A Ball Chair is a ”room within a room” with comfortable and quiet athmosphere, sheltering outside noises and presents personal space to relax or have a phone call. Playback around its own axis on the base the view to the outer space is variable for the user and so he is not completely excluded from the outside world.
