Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby has designed a Tobi-Ishi table for Italian company, B&B Italia. Tobi-Ishi is a round table that inspired from the east, even in its name which refers to the ornamental stones used in traditional Japanese garden. The shape of a table, which is distinguished by the cantilever top and base that look different depending on the perspective, alludes to those smooth stones. With using unexpected materials, a Tobi-Ishi table is made with blending the technology aspect and handicraft. After considerable experimentation aimed at creating a granite look, a table bases have cores in Baydur ® (structural polyurethane foam) and a wooden top. All the parts have been maintained with cement grout to make a sort of superficial skin that recalls a history of high-tech craftsman. [Via]

Sebastian Herkner will launch a Bell table, its first collaboration with ClassiCon at the Milan Salone del Mobile in April 2012. A Bell table is made using the lightweight material, fragile material of glass as the basis for the metal that looks to float above it.
