Abie Abdillah is young and inspired product designer with a year experience in house designer at Chamdani, a furniture manufacturer company in Indonesia. He focused on furniture designs with natural materials, particularly materials as rattan and wood. He has created “doeloe lounge chair”. Doeloe (read: dulu) means a time that has passed. Inspired by a design of “Oplet” (modified from Morris or Austin van designs), public transportation vehicles that used in Jakarta on 1930?s to 1979. Applying rattan materials, which are decide as a classic material, “doeloe” was mean to denote my feelings to live on a time that I wish I could had.
Beside “doeloe lounge chair”, he makes the “Pretzel Bench” from continuous lines of rattan materials. The pretzel shape was taken because it had a continuous line shapes and circular as a rope tie. “Pretzel Bench” is intended to show the most unique characteristics of the material from rattan, a “stretchy and can be bent” character.
