Studio Makkink & Bey is based in Rotterdam has finished interior “MVRDV Balancing Barn” in Suffolk, England. Have you ever seen a house that looks like this? More than half of the granary balancing suspended in the air!
The interior scheme impression the transition from earth to sky as one walks from the earthbound access of the Barn against the ‘levitating’ end of the building, where the floor to ceiling window proposes an uninterrupted view of the clouds and sky. Walls and floors are decorated with sampled elements of paintings by Suffolk artists John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough.
The kitchen serves as a gateway from outside to inside, following the theme of the earth. Its colors are dispersed over the wall following it round the corner into the corridor. The next room in the building is the gardener room with a painting of a farm house with a tree and parts of a garden boundary.
