house architect design Peaks View Residence By Carney Logan Burke Architects

Carney Logan Burke Architects has received Merit Award 2011 for their project Peaks View Residence. Merit award is appreciation for category custom home design. The Peaks View residence is located near Wilson, Wyoming, in a grassy meadow, adjacent to the Teton mountain range. The design solution for the project must meet two conflicting objectives: the project is completed must suitable into the environment with clear guidelines for conservative design while the owners wish to make a unique house with roots in the modern idiom.

In the constraints, the architect makes a set of building volume to break down the scale of the program 6500 square feet. A pair of two-story gabled structures show a traditional face to the neighborhood, while the single-story living pavilion, tilts up to recognize views and capture daylight for the primary living spaces.  The trio of buildings wrap around a south-facing courtyard, a warm refuge for outdoor living during the short summer season in Wyoming. The roof of the living pavilion extends to make a covered outdoor extension for the main living space. The cast-in-place concrete chimney and site walls anchor have forms to the flat site. [Via]
