The Silk Chair created By Alvi Design was introduced at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2011. The Silk Chair is environmental friendly seating furniture with silk thread tightened around a bearing oak frame. The designer made this chair for the project “Det Textile Møbel” (”Textile Furniture”), where they were introduced to different textile techniques. Alvi Design was interested by the used for threading and interlace techniques used for, among other things, hammocks.
The Silk Chair expression is halfway between a lounge chair and a sculpture, where the threads make new transparent forms and a taste of weightlessness in contrast to the rustic frame. The idea to use silk threads for the chair was inspired the designer by the old Chinese string instrument Qin that strung with silk strings. [Via]
